The Western Pilot by Samuel Cummings. 1830 Edition published by Geoge Conclin, Cincinnati.
Original hardcover boards with half-leather binding.
A navigational guide to the Ohio and Mississippi rivers in common use by riverboat pilots in the 19th century. This copy bears the names of several members of the Wells family of Marietta Ohio on the rear end-papers.
The book is in poor condition with heavy exterior wear including rounded/chipped corners. The leather spine is chipped at both ends but is otherwise intact. Much of the text and several of the maps, including the first two, are missing. What is present are pages 13 -119 with text and related maps, some of which have small closed tears. All are legible with typical foxing and some damp staining. All images are of the actual book on offer.
